ATF Releases Bold Policy Agenda to Tax The Rich to Make Life Affordable

April 15, 2026

NEW ATF policy agenda raises $10T+ in 10 years by taxing the ultra-wealthy and big corporations.

Earlier today, ATF joined Rep. Pramila Jayapal (D-WA-7), Senator Chris Van Hollen, Senator Ed Markey and 21 allied organizations to urge Congress to pursue bold tax reforms that make life more affordable for average Americans by taxing the ultra-wealthy and big businesses that have made trillions on the backs of working families. Following the press conference and lobby day, ATF released a new policy agenda and new report. “Our broken tax system has never been more on display- allowing billionaires to hoard wealth and influence our democracy as the billionaire class squeezes every last dollar out of the pockets of the working and middle class to fund their massive tax breaks,” said David Kass, ATF Executive Director. “This Tax Day and beyond, we’re organizing and advocating for policies to end massive tax giveaways for the ultra-wealthy and big businesses—paid for by cuts to Medicaid, and SNAP, and other critical programs. The American people want and deserve a more just tax system that makes billionaires and big corporations pay their fair share so that we can enact policies that make health care, housing, and child care more affordable for everyday Americans. Our Coalition will continue to fight for our north star that delivers a tax system that makes the billionaire class pay their fair share.”

“This Tax Day it’s clear that there is broad support for bold tax policies to rein in billionaire control of our economy.”Said Igor Volsky, campaign director for Tax the Greedy Billionaires, “The overwhelming majority of voters, including 75% of Independents and 65% of Republicans, support raising taxes on billionaires. To shift power from a small group of ultra-wealthy individuals to working families across the country, lawmakers must ensure their tax policies actually make billionaires less wealthy.”

“The affordability crisis isn’t an accident. It’s the result of policy choices that protect concentrated wealth over the prosperity of working families,” said EJ Juárez, State Innovation Exchange (SiX) Executive Director. “We know that when extreme wealth goes unchecked, the costs get passed down to working families: in rent, health care premiums, childcare bills, groceries, and electricity. In 2025 alone, billionaire wealth grew 22% — from $6.7 trillion to $8.2 trillion – while working families see the cost of living go up, and wages too low. That is why SiX is working alongside state legislators across the country to lead the way. Across all 50 states, lawmakers are advancing bold solutions to make the ultra-wealthy pay what they owe, close corporate loopholes, and build tax systems that actually lower costs and empower working families. Together, states are proving a better future is possible.”

“Catholic Social Teaching reminds us that our country’s riches should be shared fairly for the benefit of all people. Many of us cannot afford enough food for our families, health care, a home, or childcare – yet we still pay our taxes,” said Laurie Carafone, Executive Director of NETWORK Lobby for Catholic Social Justice. “But our current tax code allows the ultra-wealthy to immorally hoard money and avoid paying taxes, so that the rich get richer. Congress must change the tax code so that everyone pays their fair share, and all of us can thrive.”
