House GOP Passes Short-Term Funding Bill, Would Spike Healthcare Costs for Millions of Americans

September 19, 2025

Today, House Republicans jammed through a stopgap funding resolution that fails to extend Affordable Care Act tax credits that make healthcare more affordable for millions of Americans and maintains $1 trillion in Medicaid cuts. This follows President Trump and OMB Director Vought’s orders to avoid minority party negotiations while attempting to cancel billions in approved funding, creating chaos shortly after they passed deeply unpopular legislation to give millions in tax breaks to billionaires while cutting critical programs like Medicare and SNAP.

“The billionaire-backed GOP majority has again successfully manufactured a crisis to push its radical policies instead of meeting Americans’ basic needs. Failing to extend premium tax credits will raise healthcare costs for millions as tariffs and giveaways to the ultra-wealthy drive up inflation,” said David Kass, ATF Executive Director. “The Trump Administration is withholding billions in taxpayer dollars and trying to bypass Congress as the GOP rolls out the red carpet for the White House to do so. They cut vital life-saving programs like Medicaid, and SNAP to give tax breaks to their wealthy donors, making life harder for everyday people. The Trump administration cronies in Congress just sent a clear signal: the Administration will not be held accountable for failing to honor funding laws passed by Congress under their watch.”
