House Republicans Again Block Request for President Trump’s Tax Returns

WASHINGTON, D.C.Republicans on the House Ways and Means Committee again block a request for President Trump’s tax returns Wednesday afternoon.

Rep. Lloyd Doggett, D-Texas, offered an amendment that the Ways and Means Committee use its legal authority to request copies of President Trump’s federal tax returns for the last 10 years from the U.S. Treasury Secretary. The amendment required that the returns be made available to committee members and staff, not to the public.  Doggett is the ranking member on the Ways and Means Subcommittee on Tax Policy.

Ways and Means Chairman Kevin Brady ruled that Doggett’s amendment was not in order, killing it without a vote.

“Congressman Doggett’s amendment would finally give some transparency to the business dealings and possible conflicts of interest of our president. It is just plain wrong for Chairman Brady to reject that call for transparency without even letting committee members vote on it. The American people deserve better,” said Americans for Tax Fairness Executive Director Frank Clemente.
