GOP Not Fooling Public: New Poll Released On Heels Of Release Of GOP
Plan Shows Public Will Blame Party For Taking Country Over “Fiscal Cliff”
As Republicans Release Yet Another Plan To Protect Tax Breaks For Richest 2%, WaPo/Pew Poll Shows Public Not Buying It
WASHINGTON, DC – The facts are clear, the American people are not buying the recycled policies of the GOP plan to avert the so-called “fiscal cliff”. Poll after poll has shown the Republican plan to protect tax cuts for the richest 2% is extremely unpopular.
Just today, a day after the Republicans released their latest plan to protect tax cuts for the wealthy and hold middle-class tax cuts hostage, the Washington Post released a new poll showing that 53% of those surveyed would blame the GOP if the nation goes over the fiscal cliff. In addition, a second poll released today by National Journal showed that 68% of those surveyed believe that tax rates should be increased for those earning at least $250,000.
“The American people want solutions and they want Congress to work with President Obama to give 98 percent of folks a tax cut now,” said Frank Clemente, campaign manager for Americans for Tax Fairness. “The Speaker and Republicans are not offering anything new and the public isn’t buying it. It looks like they are trying to push the country over the fiscal cliff to protect the 2 percent, but they will pay a huge price for it.”
