Statement on Boehner’s “Plan B” and Upcoming Vote

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Americans for Tax Fairness, a campaign with more than 230 national, state, and local organizations united in support of a tax system that works for all Americans, released a statement today on U.S. House Speaker John Boehner’s “Plan B” and the House’s upcoming vote to extend tax cuts for people making up to $1 million a year.

“We condemn Speaker Boehner’s proposal and his upcoming vote to extend the Bush-era income tax cuts for households making up to $1 million a year. Not only would this lose about $400 billion in revenue, but it’s just another ploy to protect the wealthy while holding the middle-class hostage. Wealthy Americans have already received the biggest tax breaks. It’s time that they pay their fair share. Stop these games — like trying to pass a bill to preserve full tax cuts for people making $900,000 a year. The voters spoke in November and in numerous polls since then — they want to end the Bush tax cuts for the richest 2 percent,” said Frank Clemente, campaign manager, Americans for Tax Fairness.
