WASHINGTON – Frank Clemente, executive director of Americans for Tax Fairness, issued the following statement today about President Obama’s threatened veto of the House-Senate deal on tax extenders, which would cost at least $400 billion over 10 years:
“President Obama stood up for the right principles by threatening to veto this deeply-flawed proposal. He sent a clear message that it is wrong to give huge tax breaks to corporations while neglecting millions of American families that rely on the Child Tax Credit and the Earned Income Tax Credit. Congress should prioritize passing legislation that helps working Americans put food on their table this Thanksgiving, not provide a feast of handouts to big corporations.”
Americans for Tax Fairness is a diverse coalition of 425 national and state organizations that collectively represent tens of millions of members. The organization was formed on the belief that the country needs comprehensive, progressive tax reform that results in greater revenue to meet our growing needs. ATF is playing a central role in Washington and in the states on federal tax-reform issues.
