Last night, reports indicated that President Trump, his family, and private businesses are suing the Internal Revenue Service for $10 billion. This lawsuit follows a troubling pattern in which Trump and his ideological allies file massive lawsuits against the media and federal government with little chance of success in the courtroom, only to settle out of court for millions because his cronies at the head of the respective departments are loyal to him rather than the Constitution and taxpayers.
With this unprecedented lawsuit, Trump is trying to raid the Treasury by bringing a $10 billion frivolous lawsuit against an agency his own administration controls,” said David Kass, ATF Executive Director. “To claim he was damaged by the release of information that Americans deserve to see is outrageous. Even more outrageous is under President Trump’s orders,Elon Musk and DOGE illegally accessed Americans’ sensitive information and social security numbers. At a time when working and middle-class Americans are struggling to get by, Trump is attempting to grab billions of taxpayer dollars to line his own pockets. The billions of dollars Trump is seeking would be better spent helping fund the ACA premium tax credits, rather than his own self enrichment. Secretary Bessent cannot be trusted to stand up to defend the IRS or Treasury given. Congress must intervene and stop this blatant theft of taxpayer dollars.”
