With Today’s Moore Vs U.S. Decision, Supreme Court Upholds Congress’s Authority Over Taxation

June 20, 2024

The Supreme Court today upheld the Mandatory Repatriation Tax, rejecting a challenge that would have overturned the tax code to the benefit of multinational corporations, Wall Street and other powerful parties. Today’s ruling is important for upholding Congress’s Constitutionally granted power of taxation, a central way to create an economy that works for all and not just those on top.

David Kass, Executive Director of Americans for Tax Fairness, released the following statement on the Court’s decision:

“The Supreme Court’s decision today in the Moore case confirmed the taxing authority of Congress conferred by the Constitution. This case should remind all members of Congress that the Constitution grants them authority over taxation, which can and should be used to create a fair economy that works for all people. This means passing tax legislation that ensures billionaires, the wealthiest households and big corporations pay their fair share.”
