Senate Finance Panel Ranking Member Crapo Floats Proposal That Would Make It Easier to Sneak Past a Huge Tax Handout For Rich
Americans for Tax Fairness executive director David Kass today issued the following statement in response to news that Senate Finance Committee Ranking Member Mike Crapo (R-ID) is proposing to change the method for calculating the cost of extending the 2017 Trump-GOP tax law, an extension the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office has pegged at almost $5 trillion:
“In a clear sign that the GOP knows that its proposed $5 trillion tax giveaway mostly to the wealthy will not fly with the American people, the top Republican on the Senate tax-writing committee is trying to pretend that extending the Trump tax cuts is free. Imaginary math should not be used to hide the cost of giving more tax cuts to billionaires and big corporations. It’s the same old tired playbook of inflating the deficit – and then claiming we have to cut key programs for families to pay for the tax cuts. The Trump tax cuts should expire for those making more than $400,000, and the rich and big corporations must be asked to pay their fair share to generate more revenue to invest in communities and lower costs.”
