ATF Co-Hosts 31 events in over 30 districts, Holds DC Actions, Releases 21 separate state reports on billionaires benefitting from Trump Tax Plan
Washington, D.C.– Today, Americans for Tax Fairness and its partners launched its national tax day campaign to stop Trump’s Billionaire Bailout, holding over 31 events in more than 30 congressional districts with hundreds of attendees. Events are taking place across the country, led by Pennsylvania Policy Center, Colorado Fiscal Institute, Health Care for America NOW (HCAN), and others. As part of this effort, ATF released 21 state-centered and national reports analyzing how much wealthier billionaires have become since 2018 from Trump’s tax plan 1.0, and the number of people at risk of losing Medicaid and SNAP benefits from the GOP/Trump Tax plan today. Additionally, ATF held actions in DC, projecting a message onto a Tesla building to protest the trillions in tax cuts going to billionaires like Elon Musk and commissioning a mobile billboard bringing back the message from the districts to the streets of the capital.
“Now more than ever, our broken tax system—which allows billionaires to hoard trillions in wealth, line their pockets, and influence our democracy—is on full display. We’re organizing nationwide to ensure Congress knows that working- and middle-class families won’t accept an extension of Trump’s billionaire bailout, especially funded by cuts to vital programs like Medicaid and SNAP,” said David Kass, ATF Executive Director. “This tax day, hardworking civil servants are pulling long hours dealing with the aftermath and threat of mass firings, while taxpayers face longer wait times and unprecedented targeting through IRS cooperation with ICE. A better, fairer tax system is possible, and ATF will continue to fight against regressive tax policies like Trump’s and for a tax code that works for all, not just the ultra-rich.”
“The GOP majorities in Congress are working on a bill that will take healthcare away and raise costs for millions of Americans, all to pay for tax breaks for the wealthiest households,” said Margarida Jorge, Executive Director of Health Care for America Now (HCAN).” “Their posturing about fiscal responsibility, waste, and fraud is a smokescreen for their real agenda: to help the rich get even richer at the expense of everyday people who depend on Medicaid, the Affordable Care Act, SNAP and other programs that provide basic services we need to take care of our families and make ends meet.”
“This Tax Day, while working families across Pennsylvania pay their fair share, billionaire Jeff Yass is raking in more than the entire state budget—his fortune now sits at $59 billion. That’s not just obscene, it’s a symptom of a rigged system,” said Dwayne Heisler, Pennsylvanians Together campaign director. “Since the Trump-GOP tax law, Pennsylvania’s top billionaires have seen their wealth explode from $13 billion to $126 billion. Meanwhile, we’re left with underfunded schools, crumbling infrastructure, rising costs—and now threats to slash Medicaid and SNAP that millions rely on just to get by. This is what trickle-down economics really looks like: a flood of wealth to the top, while the rest of us are left high and dry. It’s time for tax justice in Pennsylvania—and across the country.”
“It’s remarkable that 11 people in Colorado have a combined net worth greater than the entire state budget for this year – a budget the Colorado legislature just finalized that cuts over a $1 billion in services for families,” said Kathy White, Colorado Fiscal Institute’s Executive Director. “At an uncertain time like this, it’s outrageous that the Trump administration and Congress are ramming through a tax cut package that will give the richest 1% in Colorado even more, while working families sacrifice basic services like health care and food. This is unnecessary pain. We need our elected officials to pick the side of working people and fight for tax justice.”
