Senate Votes to Slash IRS Enforcement Funding, Give Musk & Trump More Power, and Cut Vital Programs to Fund Billionaire Tax Cuts

Today, Congress passed a GOP continuing resolution that makes significant cuts to IRS enforcement funding while doing nothing to stop Elon Musk’s unchecked firings and influence over how tax dollars are spent—despite his many conflicts of interests as the world’s wealthiest individual. Congressional Republicans have said these cuts and future illegal impoundments will be used to pay for tax cuts for billionaires and big corporations.

“This GOP CR is not about averting a government shutdown. It gives Musk and Trump more power over our tax dollars so they can slash funding for essential programs that serve working and middle-class Americans to pay for trillions in tax breaks for billionaires like themselves,” said David Kass, ATF Executive Director. “This bill severely cuts IRS funding, deeply undercutting their ability to pursue high-income tax cheats, send refund checks, and provide basic services. The CR also does nothing to check this Administration from continuing to lay off federal workers en masse, putting critical programs like Social Security at risk. This bill, like their overall agenda, has one purpose: gutting public services and transferring money from everyday Americans into the pockets of billionaires.”
