Deal Keeps $20 Billion Freeze in IRS Enforcement Funds Until March

Last night, Congressional leaders reached a deal to fund the government for the next three months. The legislative package notably excluded a technical provision to unfreeze $20 billion allocated to the IRS for investigating ultra-wealthy and corporate tax evasion. In response, Americans for Tax Fairness released the following statement.

“It’s disappointing to see House & Senate Republicans successfully force a deal that freezes $20 billion in taxpayer funds intended to combat wealthy tax cheats,” said ATF Executive Director David Kass. “Congressional Republicans continue prioritizing their billionaire backers’ interests over constituents’ needs. We must ensure that ultra-wealthy individuals and large corporations contribute their fair share to fund critical programs—Medicare, Social Security, and education—through proper IRS enforcement. In the next Congress, ATF and allies will prioritize securing this vital funding while defending against massive giveaways to economic elites through the Trump tax scam.”
