Today, the billionaire-backed House Republican majority voted to pass Trump’s reconciliation bill which makes billions in cuts to Medicaid, child nutrition programs, and other essential programs to fund tax cuts for billionaires and big businesses. The bill would give people with $1 million or more a year almost $90,000 in tax breaks a year, while the average family earning less than $50,000 would get less than $1 a day. In fact, according to the Congressional Budget Office, the bill would give a 4 percent increase in household resources in 2027 to the top 10 percent and a 4 decrease in 2033 to the bottom 10 percent while increasing the national debt by over $2.3 billion over 10 years and triggering up to half a trillion dollars in Medicare cuts.
“Make no mistake, the House GOP worked in the shadows to quickly pass billionaire tax cuts at the expense of working families because they know what they’re doing is morally wrong and politically toxic. While most Americans are facing economic hardship thanks to Trump’s nonsensical tariff regime, the Republicans’ only major legislative response this year is to pass a massive package benefiting their billionaire backers while cutting healthcare and food assistance for workers and families,” said David Kass, ATF Executive Director. “Let’s be clear: this fight is not over. Americans across the country will not stand by as Trump and his cronies make the largest cuts in history to Medicaid and SNAP and explode the national deficit by trillions just so billionaires and big business can enrich themselves.”
