TAX DAY REPORT: NEARLY ALL LATINOS FACE HIGHER TAXES AS BILLIONAIRES’ TAX CUTS HELP MAKE THEM EVEN RICHER

April 15, 2026

On this Tax Day, Americans for Tax Fairness (ATF) released a report noting that almost all Latino families face an average of $850 in higher taxes when all Republican fiscal policies are considered, while the 1% highest-income households will get an average tax cut of almost $9,000. These figures are from the Institute on Taxation and Economic Policy (ITEP) and include the impact of the 2025 GOP tax-and-spending law; the expiration of healthcare premium tax credits; and the president’s chaotic tariff schemes. Meanwhile, billionaires’ fortunes continue to explode, with their total net worth up almost $2 trillion since Donald Trump’s reelection.

“Republican tax policy is punishing Latino families while boosting billionaire fortunes,” said David Kass, ATF’s executive director. “This Tax Day is a good time to take stock of the disparate impact of Republican fiscal policies–for Latinos, they have on average meant higher costs for healthcare and other necessities. Meanwhile, billionaires (who are almost all white) have grown trillions of dollars richer, thanks in part to the GOP’s tax giveaways to the wealthy.”
